One question keeps popping up for many players: why are some items locked at the Eski’s Nest merchant with a message saying “Find an Expeditioner“? If you have seen this in your own game, you are not alone. This guide will break down what is happening, how to unlock those items, and why the system works this way.
What Does “Find an Expeditioner” Mean?
You walk up to the merchant near Eski’s Nest, to buy a new outfit or haircut. Instead of being able to buy everything, you see some items are greyed out. The message says “Find an Expeditioner.” This means the item is for a specific character who is not in your party right now. The merchant will not sell you that item unless the right person is with you.
Many players notice this most with Gustave. If Gustave is not in your party, his outfits and haircuts are locked. The game is telling you that you need to find Gustave and add him to your team if you want to buy those items. This is not a bug or mistake. It is how the game is supposed to work.
How to Unlock Locked Items
Unlocking these items is simple once you know what to do. First, check which character the item is for. If the item is for Gustave, you need him in your party. If it is for another team member, add them to your group. Once the right group member is with you, return to the merchant. The locked items will now be available for you to buy.
If you have already moved past the point where the character is gone, you have a few options. You can load an older save where the character is still with you. Another way is to start a New Game Plus, which lets you play through the story again with your progress and unlocks carried over.
If you ever get stuck with the Find an Expeditioner in Clair Obscur Expedition 33 message, don’t stress. Just swap your team around, visit the merchant again, and you’ll unlock the items you want. Collecting everything is much easier when you know how this works.
