Oblivion Remastered frees you from getting a horse, and you can get a free horse early in the game without paying gold or stealing. This guide will show you how to get a free early horse in Oblivion Remake.

The best way to get a free early horse in Oblivion Remake is by sticking to the main story at the start. When you leave the sewers in the Imperial City, your first task is to deliver the Amulet of Kings to Brother Jauffre at Weynon Priory.

This place sits near the town of Chorrol, and you can find it by following your map marker.

Once you arrive at Weynon Priory, talk to Jauffre and hand over the amulet. He will thank you and give you his Prior Maborel’s Paint Horse for free.

The horse waits outside near the stables. Press the button to ride it—no gold needed, no stealing. This horse is not the fastest, but it works well for early travel and is just as good as the horses you can buy from stables.

Other Ways to Get a Horse

You can also get horses by buying them at stables, stealing them, or finding special mounts. Buying a horse costs gold, and the cheapest horse starts at 500 gold at stables outside most major cities. The Imperial City does not sell horses.

If you try to steal a horse, you must sneak and hope nobody sees you. If someone catches you, you get a bounty and guards will chase you. Some special horses, like Shadowmere or the Unicorn, become available later in the game, but they take more effort to find or unlock.

Now you know how to get a free early horse in Oblivion Remake, you can travel across Cyrodiil much faster and save your gold for other things.
